Digital transformation is creating profound changes in the way training, learning, and competency development are organized for students at higher education institutions. In this context, this study was conducted to assess the current state of digital technology application in learning activities and analyze the impact of digital transformation on the skill development of students at Trung Vuong University. The study used a questionnaire survey method with 93 eligible students, combining descriptive statistics and meta-analysis methods to process the data. The results show that students have fairly frequently utilized digital platforms for learning such as e-learning materials, online libraries, learning management systems (LMS), group work tools, and generative artificial intelligence (AI). The application of digital technology contributes to improving learning efficiency, especially in skills such as information searching and processing, online collaboration, academic report writing, and the use of learning support software. However, the research also points out some limitations, such as uneven ability to assess the reliability of information sources, the risk of being distracted by social media platforms, and the lack of direction in exploiting AI tools, along with insufficient awareness of responsible use, research ethics, and academic integrity. Based on the research results, this paper proposes several implications to improve the effectiveness of digital transformation in higher education, including developing a digital learning resource ecosystem, improving online learning infrastructure and platforms, strengthening digital skills training for students, and building a mechanism to guide the use of AI according to principles that ensure academic quality and ethics in the digital environment.
